Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common and often painful condition that involves inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of connective tissue running along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes. This tissue plays a critical role in supporting the arch of the foot and absorbing shock during activities like walking or running. The condition typically results from excessive strain or overuse, which can cause small tears in the fascia and lead to irritation. People with plantar fasciitis often experience a sharp, stabbing pain near the heel, particularly during the first steps in the morning or after prolonged periods of inactivity. Contributing factors may include high-impact activities, improper footwear, higher body weight, or having high arches or flat feet. Treatment usually involves rest, stretching exercises, proper footwear, orthotics, and in some cases, physical therapy or medical intervention.
